Job Description - Energy Manager (Ireland)

Location: Cork, Ireland

Job Summary

Our energy managers are responsible for improving the energy efficiency of our partners. You will often be required to act as agents of change within partnering organisations, coordinating all aspects of energy management, from energy efficiency and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions to waste management and sustainable development by:

  • Providing engineering support and expertise.
  • Encouraging the use of renewable/sustainable energy resources within a partnering organisation.
  • Deriving solutions for carbon management.
  • Raising the profile of energy conservation.

You will be responsible for management of energy issues on more than one partner's sites.

Person Profile

  • Educated to third level in Electrical, Mechanical, Process, Food, Marine or Energy Engineering.
  • IT related qualification or proven experience.
  • Good knowledge of energy management and engineering processes.
  • Good financial analysis skills.
  • Stong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly self motivated.
  • A solution provider.
  • Ideal candidate would have Energy managers training or certification.
  • A clean driving licence.
  • Strong communication skills.

Scope of the job

  • Developing, coordinating, and implementing the goals and objectives of strategies and policies to reduce energy consumption, e.g. EU directives on energy performance and emissions, and monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of these policies and strategies, including coordinating annual progress reports.
  • Devising policies and systems for buying energy and helping with contract negotiations.
  • Providing technical and practical advice and offering training on energy efficiency.
  • Developing promotional activities and materials to publicise particular schemes.
  • Contributing to sustainable development initiatives.
  • Liasing and negotiating with contractors, the building supplies industry, council services and other relevant organisations.
  • Ensuring accurate records are maintained and energy monitoring data is collected regularly.
  • Preparing specifications, drawings and tender documents for building services, improvement or plant replacement work, including obtaining statutory approvals.
  • Liaising with and providing technical support to mechanical/electrical design engineers on new and refurbishment projects regarding sustainability, energy and water conservation.
  • Carrying out site inspections and energy surveys.
  • Preparing detailed schedules of work/feasibility studies and cost estimates.
  • Benchmarking energy consumptions against best practice guidelines.
  • Keeping abreast of legislation such as the EU Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) and ensuring compliance.
  • Organising events and workshops.
  • Compiling reports to strict deadlines.

Measures of Success

  • Good energy performance management.
  • Business Partners Satisfication.
  • Structured reporting system.
  • Operational contol - Issues raised.
  • Administrative outputs.
